Preakness Stakes Predictions
The easiest of the Triple Crown races to handicap, making Preakness Stakes predictions that accurately reflect the outcome is not all that hard to do. The horses in this race were all trained to hit their peak two weeks prior for the Kentucky Derby and most of them will continue that training and be even stronger for this race. In recent years this has shown to be the case as horses that barely won the Derby have beaten the competition by several lengths at Pimlico. One thing to remember is that nearly 70% of Derby winners factor into the top three at the Preakness. Don’t give up on the favorite even if the odds are heavily weighed in it’s favor.

When making Preakness Stakes predictions remember that there isn’t as many horses in the field as there was for the Derby. With fewer horses you can expect the better horses to finish higher since they won’t be getting caught up in the middle of a pack and get jammed up. For this reason many observers believe that this is the best race of the Triple Crown because it let’s the horse’s natural ability shine through the best. Pimlico is also the shortest track so the conditioning and experience garnered in the first race will come in handy on this third Saturday of May.
The results from the Derby should be looked at pretty hard, but don’t rule out the bottom finishers of the race. There have been plenty of horses that didn’t win the Derby come back to win the Preakness, and horses finishing way down at the bottom of the pack still have a chance as well. You will want to analyze each horses trainer, owner, and jockey to see if they have the experience to win. Of course, there is a first time for everybody but the greats like Nick Zito will be forces to be reckoned with for this race. The winners of the last two Preaknesses claimed the first Triple Crown victories for their trainers.
